His retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
